Communication Associates is a boutique communication and design firm located in Memphis, Tennessee.  For over 35 years, CA has provided training to Fortune 500 companies, and website and graphic design to successful entrepreneurial and non-profit customers like Boscos Restaurant & Brewing Co., Ghost River Brewing, The Arc of Tennessee, The Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis, The Orpheum Theatre, The University of Maryland, and many others.

Jed McQuown joined Communication Associates in 1999 as trainer and marketing director.  With a background in teaching, instruction, and design, Jed was a natural fit for a company which excels in changing the way companies look at communication.

In October 2004, Company Founder Eric Brown retired from Communication Association and Jed purchased the company, continuing to build on the strong communication principles CA was founded on.

Today, Communication Associates remains one of Memphis’ most creative and innovative boutique communication firms.  The firm, under Jed’s leadership, remains loyal to its greatest strengths - providing custom corporate training and development to communication-minded companies across the U.S., and delivering graphic design and web design to the mid-south.

Our History

Communication Associates was founded in 1980, by Dr. Eric Brown, PhD., then head of the communications department at Christian Brother College (now CBU).  A new, local company was looking for better ways to communicate important information to their customers.  Simply put, Dr. Brown proposed new and better ways to write business letters, and Federal Express became our first customer.  FedEx has been an important and valuable customer to this day.

From writing business letters came more opportunities and Communication Associates began offering courses in Effective Business Presentations and Business Writing to FedEx, International Paper, Hilton Hotel Corp., Morgan Keegan, Pepsi Americas, Smith & Nephew, and many others.  These courses, along with our other communication-based training and coaching sessions remain the foundation of our company today.

Because of the communication training provided, it was only natural that those who had participated in training turned to Communication Associates to help consult, plan, and then design communication materials, speeches, presentations, branding, and later websites.  In 1998, Communication Associates helped plan the largest intranet in the world - quite an accomplishment for a ex college professor and four employees.

In 2005, Dr. Brown stepped down as President, and Jed McQuown, then VP of Marketing, became President and Owner of Communication Associates.  Since 2005, Mr. McQuown has continued to build on Dr. Brown’s belief, that if communication doesn’t work, then nothing else will.
